Class Orientation

The week before classes begin, you will receive a letter in the mail and through your official UWC email regarding access to D2L and tech support. At this time, you will be able to access D2L.

Prepare for your UW Colleges Online course by following these steps:

  1. Obtain textbooks for your course. You can order them through MBS Direct.

  2. Check to see if a proctor is required for your course. Proctor Requirement information.

  3. Expect to spend an average of 3 to 4 hours per week per credit on each fall or spring semester course and 5 to 8 hours per week per credit on each summer course.

  4. Familiarize yourself with the Online Technologies used in your class.

    1. Ensure you at least meet the minimum technology requirements for your Online course.

    2. Obtain your account username and password using the UW Colleges Student Account Self Service.

    3. Access your UW Colleges email. Remember, you are REQUIRED to use your UW Colleges email account for all academic correspondence and assignments.

    4. Although you will not be able to access D2L until the week before class begins, you should spend some time prior to class learning this course management system. From the Desire2Learn (D2L) page, you should perform a system check to optimize your machine for D2L and review the tutorials and tech support information provided to you.

While we can't give you access to a live course, we can give you access to our Desire2Learn Demonstration site. This site will allow you to become familiar with some of the technologies used in UW Colleges Online courses and see how course content is organized.
