Refund/Drop Policy
Drop or Withdrawal
Online courses may be formally dropped during the first 10 weeks of a fall or spring semester-long course or during the first five weeks of a summer eight-week course. (Please note: if you wish to drop all of your UW Colleges course work, read the information regarding Withdrawal below).
Dropping a Course
If you wish to drop a UW Colleges Online course, you need to drop where you registered.
- If you registered in P•R•I•S•M, you need to drop in P•R•I•S•M. See below for instructions.
- If you registered through UW Learning Innovations, you must drop/withdraw from your course through the Online Catalog Registration System at https://register.wlearn.com.You cannot drop a course after the first 10 weeks of a semester (or after a proportionate time for a shorter session). If you leave a course after the deadline date, your instructor must assign a grade other than "W" to your academic record.
Withdrawal
Withdrawal means terminating your registration in all courses for the semester. You must complete the process no later than the 10th week of classes in any semester, or a proportionate time for a shorter session. If you do not withdraw, you will receive grades in all courses for which you are registered. Non-attendance does not constitute official withdrawal.
- If you are a UWC campus student, contact your campus student services office to officially withdraw.
- If you are a UWC Online student and registered in P•R•I•S•M, please send an email to decoordinator@uwc.edu stating your desire to withdraw. The date of the email will be used as the effective date of your withdrawal.
- If you send your withdrawal request from an email address other than your UWC account it must be followed with a signed letter of authorization. Please send to: UW Colleges Online, 780 Regent St., Suite 130, Madison, WI 53715-2635.
- If you registered through UW Learning Innovations, you must drop/withdraw from your course through the Online Catalog Registration System at https://register.wlearn.com.
If a course is dropped within the first two weeks of class, there is no indication of that drop on the academic record. If a course is dropped after the second week of classes but within the first 10 weeks, the drop is indicated by a "W" on the official academic record.
Online Administrative Withdrawal – UW Colleges has a universal administrative No Show Policy enforced in all campus face-to-face classes and in all UW Colleges Online classes. In lieu of physical time/place attendance, UW Colleges Online instructors have been asked to specifically designate one activity or assignment as “proof of participation” in each course for purposes of enforcing this policy in the totally online environment. Failure to complete the specifically designated assignment by the posted date will result in an administrative withdrawal, unless the student has made prior arrangements with the instructor and the instructor has notified the UWC Online administrative office.
Refunds
For specific refund or drop dates each semester, refer to the Academic Calendar.
Tuition paid by credit card will be refunded to your credit card. Refunds will be processed each Tuesday after the end of the 100% refund period.
The $60 administrative fee for Online courses is non-refundable after Online registration is closed.
